CARTWHEEL LAB
Repatterning movement from the ground up
Wednesdays 530-630p : June 3- June 24
June Wednesdays at The Movement Standard
The cartwheel is one of the clearest expressions of coordination, rhythm, timing, and orientation in movement practice.
For some, it represents a return to play. For others, it becomes a gateway into locomotion, soft acrobatics, hand balancing, inversion, and more fluid movement capacity. But most people never actually practice the cartwheel. They attempt it.
This month-long LAB is designed to change that.
Whether you are building your very first confident cartwheel or refining more advanced entries, exits, shapes, and directional changes, this series is structured to help you develop the underlying conditions that allow the movement to emerge with more ease, clarity, and adaptability.
This is not about memorizing one “correct” technique.
It’s about developing:
better orientation in space
more coordinated weight transfer
stronger and softer hands
improved timing and rhythm
confidence moving sideways and upside down
elastic connection through the body
adaptability inside movement transitions
Over four Wednesdays, we’ll progressively explore foundational mechanics, developmental drills, locomotion patterns, and creative variations that help the cartwheel become less of a trick and more of a usable movement language.
Who This Is For
This LAB is open to:
complete beginners
students rebuilding confidence
movers wanting cleaner mechanics
handstand and soft acrobatics practitioners
current TMS students wanting more variation and flow development
All levels are welcome. Progressions and regressions will be provided throughout.
What We’ll Explore
Foundations
hand placement
entry and exit mechanics
safe weight transfer
spinal organization
leg pathways
rhythm and momentum
Developmental Progressions
low cartwheels
elevated variations
step-in entries
directional changes
one-handed preparations
locomotion integration
Advanced Explorations
smoother transitions
soft landings
flow patterns
creative entries/exits
cartwheel variability and adaptability
The LAB Format
The LAB format allows us to go deeper than a traditional class.
Rather than constantly moving on to new material, we spend time:
refining
repeating
observing
adjusting
integrating
Students receive direct feedback, individualized progressions, and weekly focuses to continue practicing between sessions.
Results tend to come from: high exposure · low pressure · consistent attention
